“When a "clicking" in my right jaw hinge went from a minor annoyance to a real concern I consulted Dr. Gavrila. The clicking was in the hinge of my right jaw, and over time the clicking became prominent and my jaw was becoming sore from it.

Dr. Gavrila examined my jaw and teeth and recommended that a plaster cast be made of both the upper and lower jaw and teeth. She mounted the plaster casts in an apparatus that allowed her to study the operation and alignment of my teeth and jaws.

Dr. Gavrila determined that my upper and lower jaws were not closing in harmony. Instead, the lower jaw would shift right after my teeth made contact on the left. The teeth on the left were higher than those on the right, and therefore, the teeth on the left made contact before the teeth on the right. The lower jaw's shift to the right was causing abnormal stress on the hinge mechanism, which was causing the pronounced clicking and soreness. She told me that the problem would only get worse, and that the future function of my jaw's hinge was at risk.

Dr. Gavrila recommended replacing old crowns, and taking particular attention to the relative heights and positions of my teeth. The crowns were replaced, and carefully sculptured to ensure that the upper and lower jaws closed in harmony.

Six months have passed since the Dr. Gavrila brought my upper and lower jaws into "harmony". The "clicking" and jaw soreness that I complained about are gone. I hadn't realized it, but before I was chewing mostly with the teeth on the right side of my mouth. I'm now chewing food using the teeth from both sides of my mouth. That's a new experience.

Altogether, I'm convinced that Dr. Gavrila is responsible for correcting the serious misalignment of my upper and lower jaws, and further, without her intervention my right jaw hinge was headed for failure.”
